Spray Tan

Here at The Beauty Rooms Day Spa, summer is one of our favourite times of the year. Not only are the days warmer, but it also allows us to swap our heavy winter clothes for our summer wardrobe of playsuits, sandals and shorts. However, we’d be lying if we said summer was plain sailing, as it comes with a whole host of skin issues – skin quickly becomes dehydrated, breakouts and pimples seem to increase, rashes appear more prevalent and acne just won’t go away.

However, by following just a few simple changes to your daily skin care routine, you can ensure your skin is in prime condition and set to glow throughout the season.

Summer Facial Skin Care

You should be looking after your face every day of the year, and the summer months are no exception. The temperatures are sticky and humid, so we highly recommend that you at least splash your face with water and give it a gentle scrub every morning and night. This will help keep your face clean and grime-free, and reduce the risk of break-outs.

If you’re after a particularly flawless complexion, a revitalising facial is the best solution. They are a great method of tackling blemishes and leave a beautiful, polished glow on your skin.

Look After Your Feet

Sandals are an essential item in everyone’s summer wardrobe – they are extremely comfy and complement a variety of outfits. However, in order for you to fully rock your favourite sandals, your feet also need to be in healthy condition (which is unlikely if they’ve been hiding beneath thick socks during the winter). Hydrating pedicures are perfect for getting your feet ready for sandals – they ensure your skin is hydrated and soft, and make sure your nails look beautiful.

Importance of Moisturising

Moisturising is often forgotten about in the warmer months, but it is a crucial aspect of ensuring your skin is healthy all-year round. The extreme heat dehydrates your body and causes your skin to become dry, which increases its proneness to damage and dullness. Using

effective moisturisers will help to keep your skin hydrated, and will give it natural softness in texture.

We highly advise against using the thick creams that you use in the winter months. Your skin needs to breathe naturally, and the thicker creams that block pores can actually cause more problems. Instead, use lighter lotions, such as water or gel-based moisturisers that contain vitamin E – it’ll help to keep your skin supple and looking fresh, perfect for when you’re wearing shoulder-baring tops and midi skirts.

Best Sun Skincare Products

If you’re looking for some of the best skincare products to use during the summer, look no further! Guinot have recently launched their summer 2018 skincare range, Sun Logic, which offers premium protection from the sun and against the harmful effects of blue light exposure. As well as melanin and lutein, the new collection also features Guinot’s Cellular Life Complex. The complex consists of 56 active

products, and helps to prevent signs of premature ageing and dark spots.

All products from Guinot’s new Sun Logic collection are available to purchase from our salon in Nailsea, near Bristol (132A High Street, Nailsea, Bristol, BS48 1AH).

Don’t Forget Sunscreen

If you know you will be spending large parts of the day in the sun, it’s crucial that you apply sunscreen. AlumierMD Moisture Matte Sunscreen, for example, contains titanium dioxide (a safe, naturally occurring mineral coated for sun stability) and offers broad-spectrum protection from both UVA and UVB rays. It acts as a physical sunscreen agent, essentially scattering and reflecting UV rays. This high-quality sunscreen is also available from our salon.

Should I Restrict the Amount of Time I Spend in the Sun?

It’s advised that you limit your exposure to the sun, especially during its peak hours between 11am and 4pm. UV rays can be harmful to your skin so try to find shade where possible and protect yourself with a wide-brimmed hat.

Wear Lightweight Summer Clothes

Make sure you’re wearing clothes made out of cotton and other light fabrics when spending time in the hot temperatures. Tight clothes often cause irritation and make sweaty parts of the body itch, which can cause rashes or even more serious skin conditions to develop.
